More Peanut Problems

Friday, 30 January 2009

Yes, what started as just a peanut butter problem has expanded to peanuts and other peanut products. The recalls of peanut products has expanded to quite a long list, including dog treats. I’m not implying any cyclists eat dog treats but…

Peanut Corporation of America has now expanded their recall to all products from the Blakely, Georgia plant produced from January 2007 to present – yikes! It’s possible they distributed contaminated products to over 100 firms. Anyway, if you’re at all concerned check the ever-expanding list of recalls at FDA. If in doubt, toss it out.

Clif Bar Recall

Wednesday, 21 January 2009

All you peanut butter fanatics might want to check your cabinets. Clif Bar has announced a voluntary recall on their products containing peanut butter. The peanut butter in some of their products was, for a limited time, sourced from the Peanut Corporation of America, the company confirmed to be the source of the recent Salmonella outbreak. For more information, visit the Clif Bar site.

There is a comforting yet creepy aspect to this and that’s in how we found out about the recall. We received a recorded message from Costco letting us know about the recall and advising that we destroy any Clif Bars we have. It’s comforting to know they went to the effort to notify us but it’s a little creepy that they keep such close records of what we buy.

Kudos to Clif Bar for being proactive – it had to be a difficult decision to make.

Component Data

Tuesday, 20 January 2009

We’ve updated our component data. It now includes two lists (grids). The first is a grid that shows which manufacturer builds which parts and it also has links to their websites. The second is a grid that shows gruppo data, specifically weight and price of each component, along with a sampling of gruppo prices from several retailers. Check it out at “components” above. We suspect the gruppo prices may vary widely over the next few months.
